Bride and groom kissing among the vines in Chianti

Wedding in Chianti

Wedding in Chianti

Vineyards, olive groves and castles between Florence and Siena: a legal wedding in a village town hall, a symbolic ceremony at a wine estate, dinner under the stars. We take care of the paperwork, the planning and the day itself.

In short

How to get married
in Chianti.

  • A castle or a wine estate: the classic Chianti wedding, with a symbolic ceremony or, in many cases, a legally binding one too. Tell us where, and we find the way.
  • A village town hall: Castellina, Gaiole, Greve or Radda, a short drive from your venue. We book it and take you there.
  • A country church: possible, with your civil wedding done at home first. Catholic weddings.
  • The paperwork changes with your nationality: we handle it and come with you to every appointment.

Chianti castle wedding

A wedding in a castle,
among the vineyards.

Chianti is the land of castles: medieval fortresses turned into wine estates, with towers, courtyards, cellars and gardens overlooking the hills. Many of them host weddings, from a ceremony in the courtyard to dinner in the old rooms, and some have rooms for your guests.

A symbolic ceremony can take place in any castle. A legally binding one? In many cases we find a way to make it legal right there: tell us which castle you love, and we take care of it.

Chianti wedding venues

Wine estates, villas
and farmhouses.

Between Florence and Siena, Chianti stretches over gentle hills covered in vineyards and olive trees, dotted with villages such as Greve, Castellina, Radda, Gaiole and San Casciano. Here you marry at a wine estate with a view, in a Renaissance villa or in a restored farmhouse, with the light that has made these hills famous.

Tell us what you love and how many you will be: we find the place, and organise everything there.

Town halls in Chianti

Prefer the town hall?
We book it for you.

Every Chianti village has its own town hall, often in a historic palace: Castellina, Gaiole, Greve and Radda in the heart of Chianti, San Casciano and Barberino Tavarnelle on its edges. We know them well. We choose with you the one closest to your venue and free on your date, book it, prepare your documents and take you to every appointment with the interpreter.

How we help

What we do,
from the vines to the last toast.

  • We find the castle or the wine estate, and make the ceremony legal there whenever there is a way
  • We book the town hall of the nearest village, the declaration and the interpreter
  • We bring the celebrant, the photographer, the flowers and the music among the vines
  • We plan a dinner with the food and wines of the area
  • We suggest how your guests can spend their days: wine tastings, cooking classes, walks through the villages
  • We organise the transfers for the wedding night, so that nobody has to drive

From full planning to wedding-day coordination: choose how much you leave to us.

Good to know

Roads, cars
and the wedding night.

Chianti sits between Florence and Siena, and most of it is within an hour of Florence airport. The roads are narrow and winding and the villages small: there are no taxis here. The rides you find on the Uber app in Italy are private drivers (NCC), not real Uber, and they cost a lot, like minibuses booked for each trip.

And after a dinner with Chianti wine, nobody should be driving on country roads at night.

That is why in Chianti we always suggest a castle, an estate or a villa where you and your guests can stay together, with rental cars for the days before and a transfer planned for the wedding night.

Questions, answered

A wedding in Chianti:
your questions.

Can we get married in a castle in Chianti?

Yes. A symbolic ceremony can take place in any castle, and in many cases we find a way to make a legally binding one possible there too. Tell us which castle you love and we take care of it.

Can foreigners get legally married in Chianti?

Yes, in the town hall of a Chianti village, such as Castellina, Gaiole, Greve or Radda. We book it and prepare everything with you. Your documents depend on your nationality: see our guide to the documents.

Where is Chianti?

Between Florence and Siena, in the heart of Tuscany. Most of the area is within an hour's drive of either city.

When is the best time for a wedding in Chianti?

Any month from April to October. From mid-September the grape harvest begins, a lovely moment to celebrate among the vines; in July and August the evenings are long, but the afternoons are hot.

Do our guests need a car in Chianti?

For the days before the wedding, yes: there are no taxis in the Chianti countryside, and private drivers are expensive. For the wedding night we plan a transfer, or choose with you a place where everyone sleeps on site.

How much does a wedding in Chianti cost?

A castle or a farmhouse, twenty guests or a hundred: costs change a lot. We quote every wedding individually, with only the services you need: tell us about your plans.
