Wedding in Florence

Getting Married in Florence

Villas in the hills, historic town halls and Palazzo Vecchio: we know the wedding venues in and around Florence. A legal wedding in a town hall, a symbolic ceremony in a villa, or a few friends and dinner in the city: we take care of the paperwork, the planning and the day itself.

In short

How to get married
in Florence.

  • Legal wedding: in one of the historic town halls in the hills around Florence, relaxed and easy to book. Palazzo Vecchio is possible too, with a few limits for non-residents.
  • Symbolic ceremony: in a Renaissance villa, a garden above the city or a hotel, led in your languages by Italian Wedding Celebrants, the specialists of our group.
  • Catholic wedding: in a church in Florence or in the countryside. Our advice: have your civil wedding at home first, and celebrate the Catholic ceremony here.
  • Paperwork: it depends on your nationality. We check it, prepare it and come with you to every appointment.

Florence town hall

Palazzo Vecchio,
or a town hall in the hills?

The town hall of Florence is Palazzo Vecchio, on Piazza della Signoria, and the wedding room is the Sala Rossa. You can marry there, but for couples who don't live in Florence the conditions are quite restrictive: a high fee, only a few weekday mornings and a short ceremony. We explain the details on a call and help you weigh it up. More about the Sala Rossa.

Twenty minutes from the centre the city gives way to the hills, and to town halls in medieval palaces and frescoed rooms, with more time for your ceremony, more days to choose from and lower fees: Certaldo, Montespertoli, Barberino Tavarnelle, San Miniato and many more. We know them well: we choose with you the one that fits your date and your guests, book it and take care of the rest.

Where

In the city,
or just outside it.

Renaissance villas with Italian gardens, castles and wine estates on the hills, a terrace over the rooftops or a quiet hotel in the centre: around Florence there is a place for every style and every number of guests.

Florence is also one of the places we plan micro weddings and elopements most often: a ceremony, a few people you love, dinner in the city and a walk across the Ponte Vecchio at night. Elopements and micro weddings.

How we help

What we take care of
for you.

  • We compare Palazzo Vecchio with the town halls in the hills, and book the one that suits you
  • We take you to the declaration, with the interpreter and, if needed, the witnesses
  • We find a place in the city or in the hills, with or without rooms for your guests
  • We bring in the celebrant, the photographer, the flowers, the music and the dinner
  • We get your guests around a city closed to cars
  • We stay by your side on the wedding day

Good to know

Getting there
and getting around.

This is the part couples underestimate most. Florence has its own airport, and Pisa airport is about an hour away. Once you are here:

  • There is no real Uber in Italy. What you see in the app is a private driver service (NCC), at very high prices.
  • Taxis are few. Even in Florence you can wait an hour, they can't always be booked, and outside the big cities there are practically none.
  • The historic centre is closed to cars and the fines are high. Parking is scarce and expensive: in the city, walk.
  • In the hills, transfers are a big cost. Private drivers and minibuses have to be booked for every trip, and with many guests the bill adds up quickly.

Our advice: if you marry in the city, stay at least two nights in the centre and do everything on foot. If you marry in the hills, choose a place where you and your guests can sleep, eat and celebrate in the same spot, or plan on rental cars. We help you organise it from the start, so nobody is left waiting at midnight.

Questions, answered

Getting married in Florence:
your questions.

Can foreigners get married in Florence?

Yes. Non-residents can have a legally binding civil wedding in Florence or in any town hall in Tuscany. What you need depends on your nationality: see our guide to the documents, or let us check your case.

Can we get married in Palazzo Vecchio?

Yes, in the Sala Rossa. For couples who don't live in Florence the fee is high and only a few weekday mornings are available, so it is worth comparing it with the town halls in the hills around Florence, which are just as beautiful and more relaxed. We go through the options with you on a call.

Can we have a symbolic ceremony in Florence?

Yes, in a villa, a garden, a hotel or a private terrace, with no paperwork in Italy: many couples sign the legal part at home. The ceremony is led by Italian Wedding Celebrants, the specialists of our group, and we coordinate it with everything else.

Is there Uber in Italy?

Not really. What you find in the Uber app are private drivers (NCC), at very high prices. Taxis are few, even in Florence you can wait an hour, and outside the cities there are practically none. Plan transport for your guests in advance: we help you do it.

Can we elope or have a micro wedding in Florence?

Yes, Florence is one of the places we plan them most often: a civil or symbolic ceremony, a few guests, dinner in the city. See elopements and micro weddings.

How much does it cost to get married in Florence?

It depends on the town hall, the place, the number of guests and what you need. We don't sell fixed packages: every wedding is quoted individually. Tell us about your plans and we'll send you a proposal.
