Bride and groom during their wedding ceremony on a terrace above Lake Como

Como, Garda, Maggiore and Iseo

Getting Married on the Italian Lakes

Villas with gardens running down to the water, castles on the shore, islands and lakeside villages: on Lake Como, Garda, Maggiore and Iseo we take care of your wedding paperwork, and on Lake Como we can plan the whole wedding with you.

In short

Getting married
on the Italian lakes.

  • Four lakes, many villages: Bellagio and Varenna on Lake Como, Sirmione and Malcesine on Lake Garda, Stresa on Lake Maggiore, Monte Isola on Lake Iseo, and many more.
  • A legal wedding in the town hall of the village you choose, or often at your villa: we handle the documents and the appointments.
  • Already have a planner or a venue? We can take care of the legal part only, alongside them.
  • Symbolic or Catholic: a symbolic ceremony in a garden over the water, or a church after your civil wedding at home.
  • Your documents depend on your nationality: this is where we start.

Lake Como wedding

Lake Como,
villas on the water.

The most famous of the Italian lakes for weddings. Bellagio, at the point where the lake divides into three branches, and Varenna on the opposite shore are the classic choices; Tremezzina, with Lenno and Tremezzo, looks onto some of the most photographed villas and gardens of the lake; Cernobbio and Moltrasio, closer to Como, have the grand historic villas; Menaggio, Laglio and Torno are quieter and just as beautiful.

On Lake Como we can also look after your whole wedding, from the venue to the last boat of the evening, or take care of the paperwork alone.

Lake Garda wedding

Lake Garda,
castles and olive groves.

The largest lake in Italy, between Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino, with a Mediterranean feel: olive trees, lemon houses and long sunsets. Sirmione, on its narrow peninsula with the castle rising from the water, is the best known; Malcesine has its castle below Monte Baldo, Limone sul Garda its lemon houses, Salò and Gardone Riviera their elegant lakefronts, and Bardolino and Lazise the vineyards on the eastern shore.

Lake Maggiore wedding

Lake Maggiore,
islands and grand hotels.

A lake of Belle Epoque hotels and botanical gardens, shared between Piedmont, Lombardy and Switzerland. Stresa looks out on the Borromean Islands, with Isola Bella and Isola Madre and their palaces and gardens; Verbania is known for the gardens of Villa Taranto, and Arona, Ghiffa and Cannero Riviera are smaller villages with lovely views.

Lake Iseo wedding

Lake Iseo,
quiet and surrounded by vineyards.

Smaller and calmer, between Bergamo and Brescia, with Monte Isola rising from the middle of the lake and its fishing villages where cars are almost absent. On the southern shore lie Iseo and Sulzano, and just behind them the wine estates of Franciacorta, famous for their sparkling wine: a lovely setting for a wedding among the vines with the lake in view.

Wedding paperwork on the lakes

The legal part,
in our hands.

Many couples who marry on the lakes have already chosen their venue, and sometimes their planner. What they still need is someone who knows Italian wedding paperwork inside out. That is us: we check your documents, book the appointments, bring the interpreter and deal with the town hall, so your ceremony is legally valid at home too.

For some nationalities part of the procedure happens elsewhere in Italy: for American couples, for example, we handle the Prefettura and the court in Florence even when the wedding is on Lake Como. You don't have to travel for it.

How we help

What we do
on the lakes.

  • We prepare and check your documents before you travel
  • We book the town hall of the village where you marry
  • We bring the sworn interpreter and, if needed, two witnesses
  • We work alongside your planner or venue, or plan the whole wedding on Lake Como
  • We arrange the ceremony with our celebrants, legal or symbolic
  • We organise boats and transfers between villa, town hall and dinner

Paperwork only, coordination or full planning: how we work.

Good to know

Airports, ferries
and narrow roads.

For Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Iseo you fly into Milan (Malpensa or Linate) or Bergamo; for Lake Garda, Verona is the closest airport. Every lake has its public ferries, and on Lake Como, where the shore roads are narrow and parking is scarce, the boat is often the nicest way to move.

Taxis are few and must be booked well ahead, and what you see on the Uber app in Italy is a private driver service (NCC), with high fares.

We plan it with you: guests staying close to the venue, a boat or a shuttle for the wedding day, and no one driving after dinner.

Questions, answered

Getting married on the lakes:
your questions.

Can foreigners get legally married on the Italian lakes?

Yes, at the town hall of a lakeside village or, in many cases, at the venue itself, once the documents for your nationality are ready. We prepare them and book everything.

Which Italian lake is best for a wedding?

Lake Como for its villas and gardens, Lake Garda for castles and a Mediterranean feel, Lake Maggiore for islands and grand hotels, Lake Iseo for peace and vineyards. Tell us what you are dreaming of and we help you choose.

Where do couples get married on Lake Como?

Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzina, Cernobbio and Moltrasio are among the most loved, and there are many more villages around the lake. We suggest the one closest to your venue and free on your date.

We already have a planner. Can you handle only the paperwork?

Yes. We often work alongside planners and venues on the lakes, taking care of the legal part only: documents, appointments, interpreter and town hall.

How do guests get around the lakes?

By ferry or private boat as much as possible, and by shuttle for the wedding day. Roads along the shores can be narrow and taxis are few, so we plan transfers in advance.

How much does a wedding on the Italian lakes cost?

It depends on whether you need the paperwork only or the whole wedding, on the venue and on the number of guests. Write to us and we prepare a proposal.
