Gondolas and palazzi on a canal in Venice

Wedding in Venice

Getting Married in Venice

A civil wedding in a palazzo on the Grand Canal, a symbolic ceremony on a terrace over the water, a gondola waiting below: we take care of your documents, your ceremony and your wedding day in Venice.

In short

How to get married
in Venice.

  • A town hall on the Grand Canal: civil weddings take place in Palazzo Cavalli or Ca' Farsetti, almost every day of the week. We book your date and room.
  • One day is enough: in Venice the declaration is made on the wedding day itself, just before the ceremony, once your Nulla Osta is ready.
  • A symbolic ceremony: on a hotel terrace overlooking the canal, written with you by Italian Wedding Celebrants.
  • In church: we suggest your civil wedding at home first. Catholic weddings.
  • The paperwork depends on your nationality, and we prepare it all before you land.

Venice town hall

Palazzo Cavalli
or Ca' Farsetti.

Civil weddings in Venice are celebrated in two historic palazzi on the Grand Canal, Palazzo Cavalli and Ca' Farsetti, in the Sala Stucchi or the Sala del Consiglio. They take place almost every day, and the fee changes with your nationality, the day, the time and the room you choose.

The best news: there is no meeting with the registrar days before. Once your Nulla Osta is ready, you make your declaration on the wedding day, just before the ceremony. We book the room, prepare every document and bring the interpreter, so you arrive, say yes and go and celebrate.

How we help

What we do
in Venice.

  • We prepare your documents and book the town hall, the room and the time
  • We bring the interpreter and, if you need them, two witnesses
  • We create your ceremony with our celebrants, legal or symbolic
  • We coordinate the day: the boats, the photographer, the flowers
  • We get you from the town hall to your dinner by water
  • For a full wedding with many guests, we work with planner colleagues in Venice we trust

The ceremony, the documents and the day are in our hands; the rest, with people we know well.

Good to know

Boats, bridges
and suitcases.

Venice is the one place in Italy where nobody drives. You land at Marco Polo airport and reach the city by boat: the water taxi takes you to the door of your hotel, the waterbus is slower and cheaper, and in the city everything else is on foot, over bridges and steps.

Water taxis are wonderful but expensive, and for a group of guests the cost grows fast. Luggage needs planning too: there are porters, but no wheels on the bridges.

We plan it with you: hotels close to the town hall and the dinner, a private boat for the moments when everyone moves together, and a gondola for the two of you.

Questions, answered

Getting married in Venice:
your questions.

How do we get married in Venice?

With a civil wedding in one of the town hall palazzi on the Grand Canal, once the Nulla Osta for your nationality is ready. You make your declaration on the day, just before the ceremony. We prepare the documents and book everything: see our guide to the documents.

Where do civil weddings take place in Venice?

In Palazzo Cavalli or Ca' Farsetti, on the Grand Canal, in the Sala Stucchi or the Sala del Consiglio.

How many days do we need to be in Venice?

For the town hall, the wedding day itself is enough, because the declaration is made just before the ceremony. Some nationalities need appointments elsewhere before that: we tell you exactly what applies to you.

Can we have a symbolic ceremony in Venice?

Yes, for example on a hotel terrace overlooking the canal, with one of our celebrants and the words you choose.

Do you plan full weddings in Venice?

We take care of the documents, the ceremony and the coordination of your day. For a full wedding with many guests, we work alongside planner colleagues in Venice whom we trust.

How much does it cost to get married in Venice?

The town hall fee depends on your nationality, the day, the time and the room; then come the ceremony, the boats and the dinner. Tell us your plans and we send you a proposal.
